What this is

Debate is a place to argue in public, with sources. You post arguments and quotes, vote on debates, and discuss with other users.

Your content

You own what you post. What follows is a license we're asking for, not a transfer of ownership — and it's non-exclusive, meaning nothing here stops you from posting, reusing, or licensing the same content anywhere else yourself, anytime.

By posting arguments, quotes, comments, survey responses, or anything else public on Debate, you give us a broad, ongoing, worldwide, royalty-free license to use it — to display it on the site, and also to reproduce, edit, adapt (for example, turning an argument into a video clip or image card), publicly share, and distribute it anywhere, including other platforms like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, or TikTok, and in advertising. That includes showing your Debate username alongside your content wherever we repost it, on or off the site.

This license doesn't expire and continues even after you delete your account — removing your account stops us from making new promotional use of your content going forward, but anything already published elsewhere (a video, a post, an ad) stays as published; we can't retroactively un-publish it, the same way you couldn't un-publish your own repost of someone else's work.

We attribute reposted content to your Debate username, not your real name, unless your username is your real name by your own choice. We never share your email, IP address, or other private account details in connection with reposted content.

Two limits on that license, for your protection and ours: we won't edit your words in a way that changes what you meant — clipping for length is fine, twisting your point is not — and we won't externally repost anything that's already been removed for breaking the rules below (fabricated quotes, harassment, etc.).

What is expected of you

• Quotes attributed to a real person must be real and accurately sourced. Fabricated or deliberately misattributed quotes are not tolerated and will be removed.
• No harassment, threats, or targeted abuse of other users.
• No spam, vote manipulation, or automated posting.
• One account per person.
• You must be at least 13 years old to use Debate.

We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules. Use the report tool on any post to flag a problem.

No warranty

Debate is provided as-is. Arguments and quotes on the site reflect what users have submitted; we do our best to require sourcing, but we do not independently fact-check every claim, and the presence of a claim on this site is not itself proof it is true.

Changes

We may update these terms as the product changes. Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the new terms.
