This is a plain description of what we collect and why, not a legal maze. If anything here is unclear, ask us.

What we collect

When you create an account: your email address and a username. When you use the site: the arguments, quotes, comments, and votes you post, all of which are tied to your account and, unless otherwise noted, visible to other users. Basic technical data (IP address, browser type, pages visited) is collected automatically for security and to understand how the site is used.

What we do not do

We do not sell or share data that identifies you — your email, IP address, or account activity tied to your identity — with third parties, full stop. We do not use your email for anything beyond account access, password resets, and — if you opt in — product updates.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate site usage (which pages get visited, roughly how many people, general location by country/region). This data is not tied to your account identity on our end.

What is public

Arguments, quotes, comments, and your username are public by design — this is a public debate platform. Your email address is never shown publicly. Votes on debates are shown in aggregate only; individual votes are not displayed against your name.

Public content may be reused for promotion

Because arguments, quotes, and comments are public, we may feature, adapt, or repost them elsewhere — including on other platforms like Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube — to promote Debate. We attribute this to your Debate username, never your email or other private account details. See our Terms of Service for the full license you grant us when you post.

Aggregate data and research

As the platform grows, we may compile and license aggregated, de-identified insights about overall activity — for example, general trends in how people vote on a topic — to researchers, media, or other third parties. This describes patterns across many users, not individuals: it cannot be used to identify you, and never includes your email, IP address, username, or anything else traceable back to a specific person or account.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your data — encrypted connections, access controls on our database and hosting providers — but no online service is perfectly secure, and we can't promise one will never be breached. If anonymity matters to you beyond what we provide by default, two habits help: avoid pairing a strong, identifiable opinion with other personal details in the same post or profile, and consider browsing through a VPN or private window if you don't want your network activity linkable to your account. We only collect the technical data described above, and only for as long as reasonably needed.

Your data, your choice

You can request a copy of your data or ask us to delete your account and associated personal data at any time by contacting us. Deleting your account removes your personal information; public contributions (arguments, quotes, comments) may remain, attributed to a removed account, so the debate record stays intact.

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will post the update here with a new date at the top.
